Spending Your Refund

If you have been reading the news or watching television lately, there is all this talk about a tax refund. Why are we getting these refunds? Has everyone in the country won some sort of mega lottery? No, that’s not it. The reason for the refunds is that the government is trying to react to the recession the United States is entering. The Federal government wants us taxpayers to go out and spend money on things like Gap merchandise or that new Hummer everyone wants. The government’s advice is to go out and spend your refund money in order to get our economy back.

For those of us who are eligible for the tax refund, the reality is that it is the government’s short-term fix for the economy. The effects of the credit crisis are far too great to really be impacted by the short-term spending. If Americans buy more things they don’t really need, then that will just put us back to where we are now. We’re currently in a struggling economy that is fighting to keep itself afloat in the overwhelming new global marketplace.

The better solution if you’re receiving a tax return would be not to spend money frivolously on merchandise like new clothes or even a new car. Instead put it aside and decide what you are going to invest in, and remember that an iPod is not considered an investment. Find an investment like securities or real estate. With the current downward trend the economy is in, now is the time to buy every investment that you can afford. It is a buyer’s market so everything is much cheaper than it would be normally.

Our productivity levels are some of the lowest ever seen because of the constant importing of goods from and exporting of jobs to countries like China or India. The blue-collar American jobs are becoming nonexistent. Instead of most jobs going to Americans, we are seeing more and more going to foreign powers. The American worker simply cannot compete against such overwhelming economic growing pains. By buying only American products you are also helping to increase the value of the dollar, which has been floundering in international markets, especially against the British pound and the euro. Additionally you are also bringing back the jobs that America needs.

Jobs are leaving our country everyday because people are not buying American products. Investing in America is the only way to get the economy back into shape. If you are not into investing then please just spend your refund on American-made products. By buying only American products, you are helping to revitalize the U.S. economy, and you are also being patriotic to your country. Every time that a foreign product is purchased within the states, that is a dollar and job that has been taken away from a fellow American.
